If you want to see when a desktop program was installed, there are two quick methods you can use. The first method involves opening the Control Panel. If you don’t know how, read these guides:
Then go to “Programs -> Programs and Features” or the old Add or Remove Programs. Here you can see all the desktop applications that are installed on your Windows computer.
In the list of installed applications, look for the one that you want to verify and select it. Then, on the right, see the Installed Oncolumn. Look for the date mentioned in this column.
The second method involves opening File Explorer in Windows 10 or Windows 8.1, or Windows Explorer in Windows 7.
Then, go to the partition where Windows is installed and open the Program Files folder. There, look for the subfolder where the program was installed. Right click on one of the columns with details from the top and, in the menu displayed, select Date created.
The Date created column is where the installation date is mentioned for the program that you want to check.
If you are a Windows 7 user, you can stop reading. The remaining instructions apply only to apps that are installed in Windows 10 and Windows 8.1.
When was a desktop program or app installed in Windows 10?
If you are using Windows 10 and you want to know when you installed a particular desktop program or Universal Windows Platform app, the easiest way to do it is through the Settings app. Start by opening the Start Menu and clicking or tapping Settings.
Then, in the Settings app, click or tap on Apps.
On the left side of the window, choose Apps & features, if it is not already selected by default.
After a short while, the right side of the window gets populated with all the desktop programs and modern Windows apps that you have installed from the Windows Store and other sources.
Scroll until you find the desktop program or the Windows app that you want to know when you installed. Then, look at the information displayed on its right side. There, you will see its size and the date of installation. For example, in the screenshot below, you can see that we installed Skype on 8/2/2017. It is as simple as that!
When you are done, close the Settings window.
When was a Windows Store app installed in Windows 8.1?
If you are using Windows 8.1 and you want to know when a Windows Store app was installed, first open the Store.
In the Store, click or tap on Account at the top of the screen. Then, click or tap My apps.
A list of apps is shown. At first, the Store displays the apps you purchased but have not installed on the device that you are using right now.
To filter the list, click or tap the apps drop-down list. Then, select the apps installed on the Windows 8.1 computer or device you are using right now.
Now all the apps that were installed on it are shown, including apps which may no longer be installed. For each app, you can see its name, the “purchase” (even free apps are listed as purchased) and installation date, as well as its current status: installed or not installed.
That’s it! Now you know when any Windows Store app was installed.
