Tips To Cook: Meatball Sandwich


Sometimes all you want is a truely appropriate sandwich and this one with home made meatballs and tomato sauce is simply the trick.

Serves 1


For the meatballs

100g/3½oz minced red meat
1 small garlic clove, finely chopped
4 tsp olive oil

For the sauce

½ onion, finely chopped
1 garlic clove, beaten
3 tomatoes, chopped
1 tbsp tomato ketchup
2 tbsp chopped sparkling parsley (optionally available)
salt and freshly floor black pepper

To serve

1 small baguette or baton, sliced in half

  1. For the meatballs, placed the mince and garlic in a bowl and blend well to mix. Shape into small meatballs with moist arms.

2. Heat the olive oil in a pan and fry the meatballs for 5-6 mins, turning frequently, till browned throughout and cooked via. Remove the meatballs from the pan, set apart and hold heat.

3. For the sauce, fry the onion and garlic inside the pan the meatballs have been cooked in for two-three minutes, or until softened. Stir inside the tomatoes and ketchup. Season with salt and pepper. Simmer for three-4 minutes, or till the tomatoes are gentle, then stir within the chopped parsley (if the use of).

4. Return the meatballs to the pan to warm via in the sauce. Spoon into the baguette and serve with a inexperienced salad along.
